What is SALT?

SALT (Summer Apprenticeship & Leadership Training) is a 12-week residential summer internship program designed to help young adults grow in faith, leadership, and professional experience. Located at Green Lake Conference Center, SALT combines paid work opportunities with intentional Christian community, spiritual formation, and personal development.

Each participant serves in a hospitality-focused department (25–30 hours/week) while also engaging in a personalized internship aligned with their career goals or school requirements (10–15 hours/week). Interns receive a weekly stipend of $420–$520, plus free room and board. Whether you choose from one of our established internships or design your own, SALT gives you the chance to apply your faith in real-world contexts.

More than just a summer job, SALT is a chance to step away from the ordinary, make new friends, and discover how your calling fits into God’s greater mission. Live, serve, and grow as salt and light in the workplace, and let God use this summer to shape your future.

FAQs

Will I get paid as a SALT staff member?

Yes! Interns receive a weekly stipend of $420–$520 (depending on role), plus room and board. That means your housing and meals are fully covered, so you can focus on growing, serving, and experiencing all that summer in Green Lake has to offer.

What’s a typical day like in the SALT program?

Every day is a little different, but most include a mix of work shifts, community time, and rest. You’ll spend part of the day in your assigned job role, have structured time for discipleship or professional development, and still have space to enjoy meals with friends, explore the grounds, or go for a sunset walk by the lake.

Will I get time off during the summer?

Yes. Everyone gets at least one day off each week, and there’s built-in time to rest, have fun, and explore. Green Lake Conference Center has tons of activities available, like our high ropes course, biking, hiking, bonfires, and more.

Can I request a specific job or internship area?

Yes! You’ll be able to indicate your interests and strengths on your application, and the SALT team will work to place you in a role that aligns with your gifts and goals. There are also opportunities to create a customized internship experience.
